The Floating World Newsletter

One Japanese masterpiece up close, every Sunday. Free.

The story behind the art, the details you’d scroll past, and the places where you can see it for yourself.

What’s in every issue

  • Opening Words: a Japanese proverb or quote to start your week
  • From the Studio: a personal note from me
  • The Masterpiece: one artwork explored up close, the story behind it and three details you might miss
  • Worth the Journey: an exhibition or museum with Japanese art to visit, somewhere in the world
  • Community Gallery: art made by a fellow reader, maybe even you

A 6 to 8 minute read, every Sunday morning.

Why we started it

For years @jpnstudio2023 has shared Japanese art with almost a million people on Instagram and Facebook. A post only gives us a few seconds. The Floating World gives each artwork the time it deserves: the artist, the story and the details you’d otherwise scroll past.

Your welcome gift

When you join, you get 5 wallpapers made from Utagawa Hiroshige’s woodblock prints, the landscapes Van Gogh admired so much he painted his own copies. They land in your inbox straight away, a first taste of what’s coming every Sunday.
